Bringing Brooches Back

Recently I was flipping through a copy of InStyle and came across an article about Former Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright.  It was all about the power and communication source of her brooches.  As someone who has collected brooches for years, I was so fascinated with this article!  Personally it’s another form of accessorizing, but also something a bit unique in this day and age.  Not to mention the meaning behind brooches, the stories they tell and many times a conversation starter.

“I’d always loved costume jewelry, but it had never occurred to me that a pin could also be used as a diplomatic symbol until that exact moment.”  - Former Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright

Though, I completely understand seeing a brooch makes most feel like they are back in their grandma's house covered in doilies and poupore. Might not help that I also love those things, call me a sentimental woman! And while this look might not be for everyone, I think there are some beautiful ways to do it with a modern twist:

  1. Wear them on your scarf - Scarves never leave the picture when it comes to style, and especially now that quiet luxury is so prevalent! Adding a pin or brooch to your scarf is the perfect way to incorporate dimension to your look as well as show off a subtle beauty.

  2. Wear them on your purse - Much like tying a scarf around your purse, when you have a bag with thin straps, it is a great way to add a little something extra with a pin!

  3. Make them into a necklace - Hear me out on this one. Sure when I say it you immediately think of a massive statement necklace with a big ol brooch added on top. But think about it in a more modern way: Adding a thin gold chain to your look and attaching a simple, yet meaningful, brooch to the end. Layered on top of a cashmere sweater in the winter. Perfection!

  4. Add to a denim jacket - This is a great way to dress it down.  I would pair it with jeans, a tee and sneakers…SUPER cool!

No matter how you choose to wear your pins and brooches, I love the idea of us trying it in a new and fresh way!

“For me, they were always just a way I could communicate with people. Who knew a little inanimate object could say so much.”  - Former Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright
