Back to School Shopping for ADULTS!!!

It’s the first week of August and it feels like a mad dash to get ready for school.  Every friend I talk to is busy getting all the essentials (and let’s be honest, non-essentials) together for their kiddos.  While I’m right there with them, I’m here to encourage you not to forget about yourself.  That’s right, adults can do back to school shopping!!!  Really it’s just shopping for the fall, but sometimes we need an excuse to invest in ourselves.  Wink wink!!!  I see this all the time…mommas will buy their kids all the things but don’t spend a dime on themselves.  So we are going to call it Back to School Shopping for ADULTS!

For those of you in Texas, I know Fall/Winter clothes are the last thing you want to put on your body right now.  With 100+ temps and no end in sight, I totally get it.  HOWEVER, just a few tweaks can have you feeling well prepared for the fall (with hot temps) and then ready for the winter.

  1. Work on your Transitional wardrobe.  At this time, I start shifting to a fall color palette BUT in super lightweight materials.  This allows me to feel like I’m shifting with the “fall” but still weather appropriate for texas.  Stay tuned…I’ll be sharing some of my favorite transitional pieces this season soon.

  2. Plan Ahead.  Ideally, I will make a list of all the big things happening in our fall/winter schedule…trips, birthdays, galas, holidays, football games, etc.  Then I’ll create a shopping list of what I need to add into my wardrobe.  This allows me to start adding a few things here and there.  I typically start this at the beginning of August so i’m not as overwhelmed during the busy season.

  3. Accessories go a long way.  I could take a simple white dress and style it for the summer.  On the flip side, I could switch out the accessories to make it very fall appropriate…add a dark felt hat, dark booties, light bandana/silk scarf and then jewelry.  This instantly changes the look.  Spend some time switching out those accessories to make things more “fall”.  And if you don’t have those in your wardrobe, add them to your shopping list.

Okay mommas, go make plans NOW for your back to school shopping.  You deserve it!!!

with LOVE and grace,

Elizabeth
