FALL TRENDS 2020

If you know me well, you know that I’m not a fan of fashion trends.  For those that don’t know me well, I’m guessing you’re shocked since I’m a wardrobe consultant.

Let me explain a few reasons why I’m not a fan:

  1. Many of the trends are “wardrobe essentials” in my opinion.

  2. They seem to be created just to stimulate spending.

  3. There is too much focus on “trends” compared to knowing your own individual style.

  4. There tends to be a wide variety of “trends” of the season.  As in there isn’t a ton of consistency on what the industry is sharing as the trends.

  5. Often I feel like trends just add confusion to some women as they try to keep up with the trends.

As I mentioned above, I pulled information from 7 different resources.  There was a WIDE range of “trends.”  However, the most consistent trends that I noticed for Fall 2020 were:

  • Heavy Metal

  • Caped Crusader

  • Punky Plaids

  • On the Fringe

  • Skirting Around (skirt suits)

  • Everyday Lingerie

  • Natural Tones All Over

  • Leather, Leather Everywhere

  • Velvet

I would not be authentic to myself and my work, if I didn’t offer a few “wardrobe coaching” tips to keep in mind when incorporating seasonal trends:

  1. Only work in the trends that align with your individual style

  2. Only incorporate trends that are flattering to your body type

  3. Don’t spend too much money on any piece that you are “testing out”

Please don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate trends.  I just think they shouldn’t get all the focus each season when working on your wardrobe.  There are many other areas of the wardrobe that I think are much more important to focus on.  i.e. wardrobe essentials. ☺  Too often I’ve worked in closets that have all the trends but they don’t have a good basic black pant.  I get it, wardrobe essentials aren’t as fun to talk about compared to trends.  Many of the “trends” this season, I love.  However, I love them year after year.  As with most things in fashion, find a way to make this season’s trends work for you.

with LOVE and grace,

Elizabeth
